Highland Helicopters provides a charter service around the lower South Island. Take in some of New Zealand’s most stunning scenery – such as Dunedin city’s dramatic coastline, the expanse of Central Otago or the wilderness of the Catlins.

Our MD 902 Explorer is a multipurpose twin-engine helicopter that sets the standard for performance, affordability, dependability and safety for light-twin engine helicopters. It is extremely safe, quiet and comfortable, with Bose noise-cancelling headsets. It can seat seven passengers (one alongside the pilot).

Closer to home, Highland Helicopters offers scenic flights around the Otago region.
Experience the sights of Dunedin city, the Otago Peninsula or the spectacular Otago coastline.
If you have specific places you would like to see, we are happy to customise a flight accordingly.
Transfers
We are available for transport between Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin, as well as other destinations within the South Island.
Winery
We have access to an exclusive winery, situated in the heart of Central Otago’s Gibbston Valley.
No bustling tastings, alongside bus loads of tourists. Instead spend your time sampling some of New Zealand’s finest organic wines, speaking directly with the vintner and walking the vines.
Fishing in Moeraki Bay
If you like truly fresh fish, we can take you up to Moeraki – a short flight from Dunedin – and arrange a charter fishing trip.
Blue cod can only be found in the southern waters of New Zealand and is the fish of choice in Otago.
We can take you to the internationally renowned restaurant, Fleur’s Place, which specialises in fresh fish from Moeraki Bay.
Alternatively, fly directly to New Zealand’s famous Moeraki Boulders (kaihinaki) to stroll along the beach and view the boulders or enjoy the Moeraki Café, Bar and gift shop.
The Catlins
The Catlins occupy the wild southeast coast of New Zealand. They are a raw, dramatic slice of the country, yet only a short flight from Dunedin.
Along the way we pass Nugget Point – one of the most iconic landforms on the Otago coast.
Enjoy a short bush walk and be captivated by the natural beauty of the Catlins rainforest and the beautiful McLean Falls.
Refresh yourself at the Whistling Frog café and bar, before heading back to Dunedin.
Weddings
Time is always of the essence on your wedding day. Using a helicopter for transport is not only special, it can also make logistical sense.
The spacious club seating in the cabin is ideal for transport to your wedding venue or photo locations.
Stewart Island Experience
Stewart Island is a haven for native wildlife. Even a short walk close to Oban township will see you experiencing birdlife and bush scenery that compares to being deep within a New Zealand forest.
Take a boat cruise and catch your own fresh fare straight from the sea.
Highlands Motorsport Park
A short flight from Dunedin will see you at this world-class facility in Cromwell. At Highlands, there are multiple ways to experience the track at speed – including from inside a Ferrari or Porsche.
Highlands is also home to the best outdoor go-cart circuit in the Southern Hemisphere.
Hunting
Highland Helicopters can fly you to your recreational hunting spots. Opportunities for free-range hunting for fallow deer, thar, chamois and red deer are available. We work with Dunedin Trophy Hunting to provide drop-offs into remote country or private free range blocks.
